We Shall Be Monsters

A tender Gothic tale of motherhood and the feminine Frankenstein, with live and shadow puppetry. 


We Shall Be Monsters was first performed as part of Brighton Science Festival 2018 and responds to themes of femininity, designer babies and genetic engineering.


The Year is 1780. Ernest Frankenstein’s young wife Clara is desperate to have a child – even if she has to make it herself. 


When she discovers Ernest’s brother Victor’s journal telling of his monstrous experiments and creation of a creature, Clara sees a solution...
